My Biography : My name is Matthew Gallman and I am from Chicago, IL. I am currently a freshman at the Savannah College of Art and Design and have always been interested in art. Particularly, I've always loved comic strips. I've read comic strips in newspapers and in books ever since I was little, and at the age of thirteen I started writing comic strips for a local, weekly, newspaper called the Tinley Junction.

It was in 2008 that I started writing weekly comic strips for the Tinley Junction and I wrote them all throughout high school. In high school I took every art class offered to me and developed skills in traditional artwork as well as comic strips.

During my senior year in high school, I was accepted to the Savannah College of Art and Design with a decent scholarship. When going to SCAD, I was amazed at the talent at the school which motivated me to improve my own work. In classes I've worked hard on developing my traditional skills and pushing them to be the best they can be. I worked long hours on my drawings and have even had some of them featured in SCAD Day shows for when potential students visit the school. Outside of class I've been working on using new materials for my cartoons and I started to explore the world of digital art. My major at SCAD is sequential art with a story boarding minor. I am excited to start my classes in sequential art to develop my skills there.

After I graduate I want to start out with a job in story boarding, character design, concept art, or anything along those lines. I hope that if I get a steady job in the industry, my skills will improve and that I will be sending in comic strips to syndication companies. I really hope that one day I can be syndicated as a newspaper cartoonist.
