My Biography : My name is Justin Patrick Couchot. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and spent my childhood in various parts of Ohio, Indiana and Washington. I am currently enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia focusing my studies in digital art, specifically majoring in Game Design with a possible double major in the future.
Throughout my life I always had a keen interest in space and robotics and really anything mechanical, so for much of my life I wanted to explore a scientific career. My ultimate goal in as a child was to make my way into space, hopefully to another planet. I always saw it as the ultimate creative endeavor; you have the entire universe at your disposal! It always intrigued me and I still want to go into space more than anything, perhaps in the distant future.
When I entered high school I started to experiment a lot more with art and I really found an interesting medium between art and science when I discovered a man named Edmond Couchot (while googling myself…) . Edmond is a doctor of aesthetics at the University of Paris VIII and explores the connection between art and technology. If there was a single piece that influenced me to go into art it would be one that he created. It’s a brilliant display where he is writing the world evolution on a wall using both hands and a robot arm mounted to his back to each write a section of the word at the same time.
When I knew that I wanted to explore art I had to look at my influences and what I loved and I realized that I should go into game design. I had always enjoyed creating worlds as a child. I made up games for my brothers and neighbors and always tried to create an immersive experience where the player forgot who he or she was, and that want to create a new world still resonates with me today as I pursue my degree in digital media.
After I graduate I would like to get a job in the video game industry, preferably creating interesting environments or worlds to go along with an intelligent story.
In my spare time I enjoy mountain biking, hiking, camping, trail running, playing soccer, cooking, learning new languages, studying neuroscience, quantum mechanics and astrophysics as well as reading classic literature and philosophy.
